All in all, it takes around 3 weeks, as you may possibly gather – I’m obsessed in bucketfuls! … I hope my PEBBLE creations bring you as much joy as they do me, in creating them…
I mix Portland Cement (it’s a bit like icing sugar, puffy, soft but dense and very heavy) with horticultural soil enhancers rich in Calcium and Magnesium) with a generous dollop of compost. It all sticks together with water, and well, resembles a bucket full of mud!
The material is enthusiastically mixed by hand – it’s sloppy and very messy! Next it’s meticulously molded, most often using shaped and taped cardboard boxes salvaged from the Village Shop!
After curing, excitement is high to reveal beautiful organic unique shapes. As I handle and hand finish every piece, I often wonder where its home may be, what type of plant might take up happy residence, who will notice and feel the beguiling and immense pleasure that I get in their creation.
